Books for Kindles are now available! We have nearly 2000 ebooks available for download to a variety of e-readers and devices, which now includes Kindles.  Go to
http://arrowhead.lib.overdrive.com Click on the Kindle announcement on the left side to retrieve all Kindle-compatible ebooks, or browse by different catagories of fiction or non-fiction for ebooks.

 

October Programs

How 2 B Books    Tuesday, October 4, 3:30-4:45 pm

Do you know "How 2"? How do you eat spaghetti Put bait on your hook? Fly to the moon? With Creativity Tank artists, we'll look to classic children's author Munro Leaf, and his illustrations for inspiration. You will create a pullout pocket book to draw and write your own "How To" instructions for any number of fun and fantastical things we know how to do!

Open to all ages. Children 0-6 must be accompanied by adult.

This is a FREE Children First! Event.

School bus #41 arrives at the library at 3:30 p.m.

 

Film: “Cancer Cell Research: the Way of all Flesh” Tuesday, October10, 7 pm.

We are collaborating with ICC for  their fall symposium based on the book ”The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lack”  There are several activities taking place on campus on Monday, October 10.  Check the ICC web site for details. http://www.itascacc.edu/   We will be hosting a film “Cancer Cell Research: the Way of all flesh” and discussion with ICC faculty on Tuesday evening

 

Orchestra visits Wednesday and Thursday October 12 and 13

Members of the MN Orchestra will be visiting the Library twice this week.  On Wednesday afternoon from 5:00-5:45 they will be playing in the Library, and the Friends of the Library will be serving apple cider.  Stop by to listen for a few minutes while you browse for materials or hang out and read , or settle in for the entire session! On Thursday afternoon at 2:00, Orchestra members will be providing a concert for kids. “Max found two sticks” is an introduction to musical instruments suitable for young audiences.  Bring the entire family! Genealogy workshops October 15

Saturday, October 15 is a great day for learning about starting or continuing a family history.  Lois Abromitis Mackin, chair of the Education Committee for the Minnesota Genealogical Society, will lead two workshops: “Beginning your Family History” from 9 am –noon, and “Taking Your Genealogy Further” from 1-3:30 pm.  Refreshments will be provided by the Itasca county genealogy society and the Itasca County Historical Society. Class Size is limited and pre-registration is required.  Stop at the library or call 326-7640 to register for one or both workshops. 

 

Teen Read Week October 16-22

Thursday Oct 20, 1-2 pm  Picture it! 

Just for teens! Join Maggie Desmond-O'brien as she leads you through a session on digital photo editing, Flickr, and other cool things about online photos.

 

Support the Friends

October 16-22nd is National Friends of the Library Week.

Please stop by the library to learn more about the Friends' activities and to find out how to become a member of the Friends. Or browse the used book store and make a contribution, and purchase a book bag to take your books home in! You can also learn more on the Library’s web site at www.grandrapids.lib.mn.us.  Click you “Support your library” on the left side,  then “Be a Friend” .

The Friends also maintain Bright Red Book Shelves at two locations for Project Read.  If you have gently used books for toddlers or preschoolers, drop them off at the Library for placement on the bookshelves

 

Story times!  Bring the little ones for a fun morning with stories, songs, rhymes, a snack and craft.

Saturdays at 10:30  and Mondays 9:30 and 10:30.

Go Fish!
We have fishing rods for loan thanks to the local DNR Fisheries Division, local merchants and the Grand Rapids Evening Rotary Club.  Fishing rods and PFDs for children and adults can be   used on the fishing pier or along the river or borrowed for guests if you don’t have enough!
